Ro: Hey guys, it’s Ro, welcome to another
Nerdy Nummies! Ro: Today I have a very special guest, it’s
Mark! Mark: It’s me! Ro: We made a video together, I’ll be putting
a link down below Ro: so go check it out. Also, I’m a big fan of Mark, and his channel: Markiplier. Mark: Thank you. Ro: You play games! Mark: Yes. Ro: Do funny skits. Mark: Yes. Ro: You got a cute dog. Mark: Uh-huh. Ro: And you do rock climbing. Mark: Occasionally. Ro: I’ve seen your pictures and they’re
pretty awesome. Mark: Rock climbing, weight lifting, hot yoga,
ballet, I play trumpet professionally, Mark: I’m an excellent singer, I’m extremely
handsome, I have many skills, Mark: everyone says I’m cool when they meet
me. Mark: I’ve forgotten a lot of great things
about me, write it down in the comments below. Ro: New years is coming up, I’ve had so
many good memories on YouTube and Ro: to celebrate, YouTube gives creator awards,
they give play buttons in different Ro: colors, there’s silver, gold and diamond. Ro: Mark was the perfect guest because he
actually has a Diamond Play Button. Mark: I carry it with me at all times. Ro: Mmmhmmm. Mark: I sleep with it next to my bed. Mark: I have a presenter here, his name is not Mark: important, don’t worry about that. Ro: Huh! Mark: I am the only YouTuber in the world
that has a Diamond Play Button, Mark: I brought it out of the Natural History
Museum just for today’s Mark: occasion so that we can commemorate
these incredible cupcakes. Ro: It’s so shiny! I’m so excited… Mark: Don’t, don’t touch it. Ro: Can I just hover pet it? Mark: No. Ro: Oh…. Mark: Just look at it. Ro: Just look at it. Mark: Ah, don’t even look at it. Ro: Don’t look at it. Mark: I think that might tarnish it in some
way. Ro: OK we won’t even look at it! Background: Punch in on it, OK. Mark: NO! No don’t! NO! Ro: So to celebrate milestones and good memories,
we are gonna be making Ro: YouTube Play Button Cupcakes. Both: Let’s get started! Ro: Before we start baking, Mark, I got you
something. Mark: Cool, is it a Diamond Play Button? Ro: No I don’t have one of those… Mark: Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah! Ro: Last time we baked you got a little messy
and Mark you may be a messier Ro: baker than me. Mark: Uh-huh. Ro: Which is actually really hard to achieve. Ro: Alright, here you go. Mark: Oh thanks! Ro: That… Well that was my size. But I can, I can wear… Mark: Oh my heads too big! Mark: There you go. Ro: There we go! Mark: Did I mess up my hair? Ro: YouTube gave me these! Mark: YouTube doesn’t give me anything,
oh wait! Ro: Oh wait! Mark: Except a Diamond Play Button! Ro: The recipe that we’re gonna be making
today is a champagne cupcake and a Ro: champagne frosting recipe. Ro: And if you would like to make a non-spirited
version of this, instead of Ro: using champagne you can use sparkling
cider. Ro: The things you will need to make the cupcakes
will be: 3 cups of all purpose flour, Ro: 2 cups of sugar, 3/4 cup of butter, 6
eggs, we’re only gonna be using the whites. Ro: 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 3/4 teaspoon
of baking soda, Ro: 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 1-1/2 teaspoons
of baking powder. Ro: And, of course, champagne. Ro: Mark’s gonna tell you what you need
for the frosting. Mark: Oh, wait, I can guess. Mark: Don’t… Mark: 4 cups of cocaine… Ro: Powdered sugar…. Mark: Oh… Mark: 4 cups of powdered sugar, 12 tablespoons
of butter…. Mark: No, OK, never mind then. Mark: 3 sticks of butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla
extract, a pinch of salt. Mark: And, and of course even more champagne. Both: Now let’s put it all together! Ro: Dee-dee-dee, dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee! Mark: I don’t remember this part… Mark: I can’t stop! Mark: I wanna stop! Ro: Do you dance for new years? Mark: I, I don’t celebrate new years. Ro: What!? Mark: When I was a kid we celebrated new years by letting me out Mark: of the dungeon cage for a few hours
of sunlight before I had to go back. Mark: I was just hoping and praying that the
next year I’d be allowed into the Mark: upstairs cage which actually has a window,
but… That never happened…. Ro: That didn’t happen? Ro: Let’s get started! Mark: Yeah let’s get started… Ro: The first thing that we’re gonna do
to make our cupcakes is in a medium Ro: bowl, we’re gonna whisk together our
flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Ro: Mark did a great job whisking last time… Mark: Yeah. Ro: So I’m gonna ask you to do that again. Mark: Yeah! Mark: Start now? Ro: Start whisking. Ro: Yeah, start, start! Mark: There’s nothing in here, why am I
starting now? Ro: Baking Powder… It just helps it. Ro: And salt! Ro: Perfect! Ro: Mark that’s good! Looks good! Mark: Now that I did that completely perfectly
with no flaws, what do we do next? Ro: Next we are gonna cream together our butter
and sugar, so in a large mixing Ro: bowl I’m just gonna pour in our sugar
and butter. Ro: And we’re just gonna mix Ro: it together until it’s well combined. Ro: You’ve got an electric hand mixer over
there. Mark: I don’t like it! Ro: There you go, there you go! Mark: It’s stuck! Ro: OK…. Mark: This doesn’t work at all! Mark: This is what they used to do in the
old days, the rustic countryside. Ro: They did that? Mark: Yeah, it’s all the same! Mark: I hope you got a lot of SD cards for
those cameras over there, Mark: because this is gonna be awhile. Mark: This is how they used to do it in the
REALLY old days! Mark: You think they had metal back in their
caves when they were making YouTube Cupcakes!? Ro: They probably just used sticks and feet
and stuff! Ro: It is starting to look well combined you
guys… Mark: I did it! Ro: Look at this! Mark: I beat the machine! Mark: I did it! Ro: I’m like really impressed! Mark: I did it! Mark: This is what your mixture should look
like, and in fact, the machine was Mark: so intimidated by my ability at being awesome,
that it broke in half! Ro: We gave Mark our strongest whisk… Mark: I’m gonna break it! Ro: I don’t know what it’s made out of,
some type of strong metal. Mark: Stainless steel? Pfft! Mark: OK… What? Are we doing? Mark: This… I don’t know what comes next! Ro: We are gonna be adding our eggs to our
butter mixture, I’m gonna be adding Ro: them 2 at a time, and just a reminder,
it’s just gonna be the egg whites. Ro: Do you know how to crack an egg? Mark: Pfft! Ro: Here, I’m gonna have you do it over
this bowl Mark… Mark: Buh, what!? I’m… Ro: Because I’m not so sure about it, so… Mark: You’re gonna be shocked and amazed! Ro: OK, let me see those egg cracking skills. Ro: OK… Ro: Oh, he’s using the jiggle technique! Ro: I underestimated you. Mark: Thanks! Ro: I’m gonna let you do another one. Mark: Really? Ro: Yeah, you do it. Mark: Wow, this is a mistake. Ro: And then mix together. Mark: For this particular mix I’m gonna
channel cavemen of yore. Mark: Who both needed food and fire, so they
had a very effective technique… Ro: I’ll turn the bowl. Mark: Thank you. Ro: You do that, you do that. Ro: Go Mark go! Ro: Go mark go! Mark: I’m going! Ro: This looks great, keep going! Keep going! Mark: This is literally as go as I can go! Mark: Put in special effects fire! Mark: It’ll look good! Mark: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ro: Mark’s mixing together on a low speed while add the final eggs. Mark: We put the Mark on a low setting. Ro: My hand mixer has 5 speeds, Mark has 10! Mark: No I only have 2, low and then, geez
Mark stop! Mark: For the love of God stop! Ro: Ready for the second Mark speed? Mark: Absolutely! Ro: Ding! Ro: Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho! Ro: Just mix like this! Mark: Ugh! Mark: OK, that was easy, what’s next? Ro: We’re gonna add our vanilla and mix
together until well combined. Mark: I’m gonna do this real gentle. Ro: If you’re using a hand mixer, mix on
a low speed… Ro: If you’ve got a Markiplier, put it on
speed 1. Mark: You can buy your own Markiplier today
for only 59 payments of $69.69. Ro: Now we’re gonna pop open our bubbly,
we need 2 cups of champagne for this recipe, Ro: but we’ll need some more for our
frosting and I may need a little glass to drink, so… Ro: Are you ready? Mark: You first. Ro: Cheers! Ro: OK, I’m really bad at this, but I love
it, it’s so much fun! Ro: And give it a thumb… Ro: Pop… Ro: AHHHH! Ro: Oh no! Oh no, Mark! Mark: You saw my mixing ability before. Ro: Oh no! Mark: Just wait till you see it… Mark: In 3D! Ro: OK… Oh, oh, um…. Ro: Don’t AHHHHH! Mark: Yay! Ro: Don’t AHHHHHHHHH! Mark: Can the mike pick up my heartbeat? Mark: Now that we’re not dead… Mark: What do we do next? Ro: We are gonna be combining our dry and
champagne ingredients into our large mixing bowl, Ro: 3 parts dry, 2 parts champagne. What that means is, add the dry, mix it up. Ro: Add champagne, mix it up. Ro: Add dry, mix it up. Ro: Add champagne, mix it up. Ro: And dry, mix it up. Ro: This is making my day! Ro: Now we are gonna scoop our batter into our
cupcake tray. Ro: Over here we have got a Ro: cupcake tray, lined with a bunch of paper
cupcake liners. Ro: We’re gonna scoop a heaping to fill
the tray about 2/3 full. Ro: This recipe makes about 3 dozen cupcakes. Mark: I, I don’t have a lot of friends,
so kinda like 4 is good for me. Mark: 3 for me and 1 for Chica. Ro: That’s really sweet of you! Mark: What about the part where I don’t
have any friends? Ro: Oh sorry Mark, if you want to come over
for new years… Mark: I’d rather be alone in my cage! Mark: Just leave me to my life! Ro: OK, OK! Ro: It’s a sensitive subject. Ro: Because it’s fun, we do board game nights. Ro: And, we play Harry Potter Clue. Ro: And we play Monopoly. Mark: Sounds terrible, I don’t want any
part of that… Mark: The cupcakes are ready, you put them in the
oven at 350 for 20 minutes! Ro: That’s right! Mark: Areghhhh, or was it 22!? Mark: I don’t remember! Ro: It’s 20, and while they’re baking,
we’re gonna be making Ro: some delicious homemade frosting. Ro: In our large bowl, we are gonna be mixing
our powdered sugar and butter. Ro: And we’re gonna cream together until
it’s nice and smooth. Mark: It’s horrifying! I can… Ro: Mark! You don’t want to use an electric mixer? Mark: Alright fine…. Ro: There we go! Mark: Oh! Ro: That’s it, perfect! Ro: And then spin the bowl Mark, spin the
bowl, spin the bowl. Mark: Oh that’s so convenient! I could have been doing this the whole time. Mark: Who has to clean this up, is it me? Ro: It’s me. Mark: Yay! Mark: Why didn’t you make me use this from
the beginning? Mark: This was amazing! Ro: Well, because you’re so good at mixing. Ro: I just wanted to enjoy it a little bit. Mark: You didn’t even give me the option
last time. Ro: Just a little bit. Mark: No, you literally did not hand me an
electric mixer last time. Ro: You’ve got an electric hand mixer over
there. Mark: I don’t like it… Ro: Now we’re gonna add our champagne, vanilla
extract and salt to our mixture. Ro: We’re just gonna be adding a 1/4 cup
of champagne. Ro: I’ll do the eyeballing. Ro: Pour it in. Mark: Yaaaayyyy! Mark: Alright is it done yet? Ro: …. Yeah. Ro: Now we’re gonna set this off to the
side. Mark: Alright, so we set our frosting aside, and we have fondant, Mark: which I’m very familiar with. Ro: Over here I’ve just got some white marshmallow
fondant and I put down a piece Ro: of wax paper, so it won’t stick to our
surface. Ro: And a bunch of other tools, we are gonna
be making little YouTube play buttons. Ro: Take this little roller, roll it out about
1/2 an inch thick. Ro: Perfect! Mark: Oh, no imperfections here! Ro: Once you’ve got your fondant rolled
out we are gonna cut out little squares. Ro: Push it down, give it a little jiggle,
pop ‘em out. Mark: I get to do it too? Mark: Ah! Ro: Now we’re gonna pinch them into rectangle
shapes. Mark: Just like grandma used to do when she
was making her Play Button Cupcakes! Mark: Everyone at home, bust our your Diamond Play
button cupcakes and make sure Mark: they’re exactly, appropriately the right size. Both: Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm… Mark: And if you don’t have a play button
at home… Mark: Huh, cry about it! Ro: Now we’re gonna roll some of our excess
fondant thinner, about 1/4 inch. Ro: Now we’re gonna take a little diamond
cookie cutter and we’re just gonna Ro: cut a bunch of shapes and cut it in 1/2
so they look like little play buttons. Mark: Do you trust me with a knife? Ro: What could go wrong!? Ro: To decorate the diamond ones we’re gonna
be using a diamond luster dust, it shines Ro: rainbow. And then some very small, teeny edible diamonds. Ro: Then for our other 2 play buttons we have gold
and silver leaf. Ro: Take a little fondant rectangle, a small
painting brush, dip it into water. Ro: Paint the top, it’s gonna kind of act
as an adhesive. Mark: OK my technique, is I’m just gonna
kind of drop this in there, Mark: and then wrap it around, because I am
the smartest! Mark: Get up on there! Ro: There you go! There you go! Mark: Get up on there… Uh-oh… Oh no! Mark: Ta-da! Ro: Mark, that’s great! Ro: Uh-oh, it’s windy! It’s windy! There we go! Ro: And then, smooth it down. Mark: Yeah that’s a lot better than mine! Mark: OK, now that we got the basics done,
we gotta do the play, clicky Mark: button thing… Ro: Just a dab. Mark: Did somebody say dab? Mark: I did it, and I did it first, which
means I’m the best! Mark: Put up a big logo! Ro: Mark wins! He finished first. Mark: Let me hold it. Mark: What!? Ro: Mark you won! Mark: Ah, whatever that says is totally true! Mark: I don’t know what it is, but, I like
that! Mark: That thing there, hmmm, me likey! Mark: It’s time for this bad boy, this big
mama-jama! Mark: It’s mine, and I earned it! Ro: To decorate… Mark: Tyler, polish that! Mark: You come onto set with that glove off? Mark: AW! Mark: No, put the glove on! Mark: …. Good! Ro: Looks really good. Mark: Not yet it doesn’t. Ro: No, it doesn’t yet! Mark: All the sides too! Ro: Sides…. Mark: You may leave! Ro: Thanks for helping! Mark: You forgot to say I love you before
you leave! Tyler: I love you! Ro: To decorate our Diamond Play Buttons we’re
gonna dip it in a little Ro: bit of water, paint the top of the fondant. Ro: Then, with a dry little Ro: paint brush, dip it into our luster dust,
and paint the top and sides. Ro: Bling-bling-bling! Ro: Then to decorate our play button, we’re
gonna attach these little edible Ro: diamonds, using a little bit of water. Just remember they are made out Ro: of sugar, so you don’t want to use too
much water. Ro: Once you get all your diamonds on there,
again, you’re just gonna take Ro: a little bit of luster dust, and sprinkle
them over the top of the edible diamonds. Mark: Our cupcakes are done, and they’re
cool! Ro: Yeah! Mark: That’s important for frosting! Ro: Mmmhmm. Mark: Because if you do it hot they will just
melt. Ro: They’ll melt! Ro: Now we’re gonna assemble them. Here I’ve piped our champagne frosting Ro: into a plastic baggie with a tip at the
end for a little bit more control. Ro: And then in front of me we’ve got sanding
sugars, gold, white and silver. Ro: Take a cupcake, place the frosting bag
in the middle and don’t move Ro: the bag, just like this. Ro: Pressure, pressure, pressure, until it’s
nice Ro: and tall… Nice! Mark: Nailed it! Ro: So just dip in any bowl you’d like,
I like to go around the edges, and Ro: the top. Final decoration step, we are gonna place
our fondant play buttons Ro: on top of the cupcakes. Mark: We don’t squoosh them do we? Ro: You can squish them a little if you want. Mark: There we go! Ro: Yep! Mark: You’re gonna be cleaning it Tyler! Tyler: I love you! Mark: Ahm… That’s really good! Both: Ta-da! Ro: Here are the YouTube Play Button Cupcakes
that we made today! Ro: A big thank you to Mark for helping me
make these today! Mark: You’re welcome! Mark: And a big thank you to my own personal Diamond Play Button. Ro: We arranged them to look like a play button,
that was Mark’s idea! Mark: That was my idea! Ro: I hope you guys enjoyed the video, I’ll
