SLEEPING BEAUTY BIRTHDAY CAKE – NERDY NUMMIES

SLEEPING BEAUTY BIRTHDAY CAKE – NERDY NUMMIES

Hey guys it’s Ro, welcome to another Nerdy
Nummies! I got some requests from you guys to make
the cake from Sleeping Beauty. And technically there are 2 cakes in the movie,
there is the cake that the Fairy Godmothers make with magic, and
the cake they make without magic. Today we are gonna be making the cake they
made without magic because it is 15 layers! This is gonna be the first time on Nerdy Nummies
that we make a cake with this many layers. So today, we are gonna be making Sleeping
Beauty’s Birthday Cake! Let’s get started! The recipe that we’re using today
is from the Nerdy Nummies Cookbook, it is the white cake recipe. And today we are going to double it. The things you will need, will be: 4 cups
of all purpose flour, 3 cups of sugar, 10 eggs, we’re only gonna
be using the whites. 2 sticks of butter, 3 cups of milk, 1 cup
of shortening, 4 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/2 a teaspoon
of salt, 4 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and 1/2 a
teaspoon of almond extract. For tools, you will need a bunch of mini cake
pans, these ones are a little bit smaller than 6 inches, and they
came in a set of 5, so I used 3 sets. Over here I have got 15 mini cake pans! 6 cardboard cake boards, and it’s important
to get the ones with the holes in the middle. A mini star cookie cutter, it’s a very little
one, some pink candlesticks, 1 wooden dowel, and a circular wooden base,
got it at the craft store, and we drilled a hole right in the middle. We’re gonna need some support for this cake,
because, it’s 15 layers! Now let’s put it all together! The first thing that we’re gonna do is whisk
together our dry ingredients, we’ve got out flour, baking powder, and
salty-salty! We’re gonna mix them up until they’re
well combined and then we’re gonna set them off to the side. Now we’re gonna cream together our butter
and sugar, and our shortening. And we’re gonna be doing it by hand, we’re
gonna be using this hand mixer, we’re not gonna be using any magic! This is what your mixture should look like,
now add all of our eggs, we have a bunch of them, we’re gonna add
them 2 at a time, and remember you’re just gonna want the egg whites. So crack 2 at a time, mix it up, repeat
this until you’re all out of eggs. All of our egg whites are mixed in and now
add our vanilla extract and our almond extract. Mix together until it’s well combined. We’ve got all of our ingredients ready,
and now we’re gonna add our dry ingredients and our milk, starting with
our dry and ending with our dry. So we’re gonna add our dry in 3 parts and
our milk in half. Mix in between each addition. Our cake batter is ready and now we’re gonna
fill our pans. Grease them and fill them 2/3 full with batter. For me that is 1-1/2 scoops, but whatever
at home you have for a measurement that will fill them 2/3 full. All of our cakes are ready to bake, you’re
gonna heat your oven to 350 degrees and bake for about 18-20 minutes. It’s OK to bake all of them at the same time,
and I’m gonna be baking them on 3 separate racks. While our cakes are baking we’re gonna roll
some fondant out and cut out a bunch of little stars for decoration details. Here, I’ve got a little bit of marshmallow
fondant that we’ve colored yellow. It’s on top of a piece of wax paper, so
that it won’t stick to the surface. I’ve got a little rolling pin, roll it out! Cut out all of our little shapes, and pop
‘em out. Once your cakes have baked and had plenty of time to
cool, I’ve just stacked them up over here, and I’ve got a turntable,
some frosting, our little cake boards, we’re gonna pop out the center,
boop! You’re gonna place one down right here in
the middle, this is some buttercream frosting, in a plastic baggie, I’m just gonna put a few little bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop! Take one, and I’m gonna place him on top
of the cake plate face down, then frost. It’s OK to be a little bit messy because
we’re gonna be icing the outside white as well. Layer 2, just remember, you don’t need to
level the cakes, because it’s the cake from the movie, it’s a little wacky! After you’ve got 3 cakes stacked, we’re
gonna frost the top and the sides. Da-dew! Our first stack is done, we are gonna want
to make 4 of these, so we are gonna make 3 more stacks. Here are all of our frosted cakes, we have 12 cakes
frosted here in 4 sets, we have 3 cakes leftover, now take 2 of them,
and frost them white. And then we have one more, which we’re gonna
stack one of them, and frost it blue for the top of the cake. Our cakes are frosted, now we are going to
assemble our birthday cake here I’ve got the base and the dowel,
I just put it right into the middle. Remember, underneath we have our cake boards, and they have a hole in the middle, so you’re gonna align the hole with the
dowel, huh, and drop ‘em down! We got our first stack on, now we’re gonna
put in some straws for some structural support, I’m gonna put 4 of them. Lift the straw up just a little bit, cut, press them back down. After your straws are in we’re ready for the second stack. Again, we’re gonna use our straws, remember,
4 between each stack. For the top 2 stacks we’re gonna be adding
the double stack, so save this one for second to last. And the final top layer will be our blue. To decorate, we have the little fondant stars
that we cut out earlier, our pink candles, I’ve cut them down to
size so that they’re a little bit shorter for the top of the cake. We have buttercream frosting I’ve dyed this
one yellow and blue. The yellow frosting has a number 21 tip, which
is a little star shape, and the blue has a number 10. Using the blue, I’m gonna be piping lines
in between each of the cake layers all the way up. We’ve got all of our layers piped on, now
I’m gonna pipe a very small white layer around the bottom of the cake,
just to make it look more finished. And I’m gonna stick all of our little stars
at the top, on the blue around the outside and pipe some little details with
our yellow frosting. Lastly we’ll stick in the candles. Ta-da! Here is the Sleeping Beauty Themed Cake that
we made today! A big thank you to you guys for suggesting
something Sleeping Beauty. And, you guys, this is the first time on Nerdy
Nummies we have ever made a 15 layer cake, it’s pretty cool! I also like this cake because if you’re
