HOW TO MAKE METROID CUPCAKES – NERDY NUMMIES
Ro: Hey guys, it’s Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy Nummies! Ro: Today I have a special guest, my friend Greg. Greg: Hi guys. Ro: He is super awesome and cool. And I will put a link to his channel down below. Ro: It’s BarnyardFX, you have worked on, like, over 300 films. Greg: Film, television shows, web series Ro: Greg does everything from special effects makeup to producing. Ro: And he even made this costume today, my Samus costume. Ro: Thank you so much, it is awesome! Greg: You’re welcome. Ro: And, it is because we are going to be making Metroid Cupcakes today! Ro: Let’s get started! Greg: Cool! Ro: The things you will need will be: 3/4 cup of flour, 1/2 a cup of light brown sugar, 1/2 a cup of buttermilk. Rp: A bowl of fresh raspberries, om nom nom nom nom! These are gonna be for decoration. Ro: You also need one stick of butter, which is 1/2 a cup of butter Ro: 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda, 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder, Ro: 1/4 teaspoon salt, a bunch of plain cashews that we’re also gonna use for decoration. Ro: And, some vanilla buttercream frosting, I’ve dyed this green, so it will look like a Metroid! Ro: We will also need. Greg: 1/2 a cup of sugar, 2 ounces of semi-sweet dark morsels. Ro: Om nom nom! Greg: 1/2 a cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 2 eggs at room temperature, 2 bowls, Greg: a whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk! Greg: And then, a cupcake tray, with cupcake liners. Ro: So, let’s put it all together! Greg: All at once? Ro: All at once! We’re just gonna throw all of these things… Ro: Into the cupcake tray, and that’s how the pirates made the biological weapons the Metroids! Ro: The first thing that we’re gonna do is, you’re gonna take your bowl of semi-sweet morsels, and your butter. Ro: And you’re gonna put it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time. And mix your chocolate and Ro: your butter together in between each time. It may take about 4 increments. Ro: But you’re gonna do it until everything is combined. Ro: In your big mixing bowl we are gonna combine your flour, our cocoa powder, baking soda, Ro: baking powder and salt. Then whisk it up! Greg: Now that the dry ingredients are all mixed together, we’re gonna put everything else in the second bowl. Ro: We’re gonna add our brown sugar, Ro: our regular sugar, Ro: our 2 eggs, and a little bit of vanilla extract! Ro: Once you’ve mixed together these ingredients, now we’re gonna add our butter and chocolate mixture. Ro: The one that we set off to the side to cool. Ro: You’re just gonna add it to the mixture, keep stirring. You don’t want to over-stir Ro: But your batter will end up looking a little bit and feeling like pudding, and that’s what you want. Ro: So we’ve got: the dry ingredients, our wet ingredients with the chocolate and butter mixed in. Ro: And then, our butter cream milk. Ro: You’re gonna have the wet ingredients in the middle, and then we’re gonna alternate. Ro: You put a little dry ingredients in and then I’ll put a little milk. You ready? Ro: It’s teamwork Ro: Little bit of milk, there we go! Ro: Then just keep alternating, adding your dry and milk ingredient. Greg: Chunky milk. Ro: Yeah, your Ro: chunky milk! Until it’s all combined! Ro, OK, once you’ve mixed together all of your ingredients, your mixture, your batter, will be really thick. Ro: It looks like chocolate pudding. Ro: And now we are gonna scoop the batter into the cupcake tray. And I’ve given Greg, he’s got a tablespoon Ro: scoop, because I like this method. I really don’t know why, but you’re gonna take 2 tabelspoons Ro: for each cupcake tray. Ro: Take your little scoop, and just scoop ’em in there! Ro: And you can get messy, that’s fine. Greg: Once your tray is full, set your oven for 350 degrees, and bake for 18 minutes. Ro: Mmmhmm! Greg: So now that the cupcakes are all baked and cooled, it’s time to decorate. Ro: Mmmhmmm! My favorite part! Greg: It is, it’s my favorite part too. Ro: Hee-hee-hee! Greg: We’re gonna start with cutting…. The cashews. Ro: So what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna take 2 cashews, cut ’em in half. Ro: Because you’ll need 4 halves for each cupcake Greg: Their little pincers! Ro: Yeah! Greg: Like this. Ro: The little things that clamp on to you and suck the life out of you. Ro: So be careful when you’re, when you’re making these! Ro: So you’re just gonna take a sharp cutting knife, watch your fingers, and gently go right down the middle! Ro: Now you’re gonna take your knife and you’re just gonna make the end a little bit more pointy, Ro: So it looks like… Reearh Greg: Oh so they can, like, really dig in. Ro: Take your knife, just gently, shape them. Greg: All the nuts are cut, we’ve grouped them into little sets of 4 for each cupcake. Greg: So now it’s time to put everything together, and we’re gonna start with the icing. Ro: Yep! We’re gonna frost our cupcakes, I love this part! Ro: I put some butter cream frosting into 2 plastic baggies to make it a little bit easier to control. Ro: I always like to start on the outside and then work your way in. Greg: You make that look so easy! Ro: Now that we’ve got all of our cupcakes frosted, we’re going to add some green sprinkles on top, Ro: Because these are pretty Metroids! Haha! Greg: Sparkly? Ro: Haha! Yeah! Ro: So we’re gonna make it rain! I’ve put them on top of this little baking sheet to catch the extra sprinkles. Ro: Because…. I get a little messy! Ro: You just go like this, and then: Make it rain! Ro: Make it rain, make it rain, make it rain, make it rain! Ro: All around, all around! Ro: Now you’re gonna take your raspberries, and every cupcake gets 3 raspberries. Ro: And I like to position them, 1 on the top, and then 2 on the bottom. Both: Ta-da!!!!! Ro: Here are our Chocolate Raspberry Metroid Cupcakes! Ro: Thanks you guys for suggesting them! They smell so good! Ro: And, a big thank you to Greg for being here and baking with me. Thanks!
