How To Make A Moist Chocolate Cake From Scratch | A Step-by-Step Recipe

Oh, hey friends, cakers, people who accidentally clicked on this video but seemingly can’t click
off welcome back to cake and bake, the channel where we learn to bake together now rumor has it that many of you are requesting a chocolate cake recipe alright, uhm, that’s actually not true not a single one of you have and that’s okay
because I’m gonna share it with you anyway let’s get started you’re going to
want 1/4 cup Dutch process cocoa powder, 1 large egg, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2
teaspoon of baking powder and a pinch of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/3 cup black coffee, 1/3 cup buttermilk, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 a cup
of unsalted butter preheat the oven to 350, like this video, and don’t forget to
subscribe all right so you’re gonna want to find a
nice big mixing bowl to do everything in and you’re gonna add your butter and
your sugar and you’re gonna cream it until it’s nice and smooth so if you
could feel the butter and you can’t feel the sugar in the butter that is the
ideal consistency and that could take anywhere from three to five minutes I think it only took me two minutes here but I do not remember then you’re gonna
add your vanilla and egg and mix that in with the beaters add the cocoa, baking soda, salt, and flour. now from this point on you just want to use your spatula to mix it up because if
you mix it too much it’s going to become dense and as you’ll see that’s actually
what I did do I use the hand mixer and it’s hard to control the speed and how
much you’re mixing with the hand mixer so don’t do that
but it’s okay because we’re all learning here add the buttermilk and mix it in with
your spatula, not the hand mixer. I must repeat, do not use the hand mixer as I am
using right here. Nope. No, do you not do it unless you want a
dense cake then do it but you’re weird then you want to do the same thing with
the coffee but remember we’re using the spatula no dense cake here oh and obviously don’t forget to sample
your cake mixture, like come on. alright let’s prepare our pan so you’re gonna
grab parchment paper that’s slightly bigger than your pan and then what
you’re gonna want to do is you’re gonna want to fold a triangle so if you unfold
the triangle you have a square right so fold the triangle cut the excess off and
then you’re gonna fold the triangle in on itself and then I’m gonna want to
keep folding the triangle in and on itself and where my one finger is I’m
gonna keep that as the corner I’m just gonna keep folding I think I folded
about four times here and that is good enough right here
and then you’re gonna measure and mark I try to mark about half an inch
in or about two and a half centimeters in and I give it a good cut and it looks
like a flower here most people try to make it round but I like to make mine
look like a flower grab your best cooking spray and spray down your pan so there is no sticking and then you’re gonna want to put that parchment paper
right inside and you have a prepared pan Now I know you knew what the next
step was you you knew we were gonna put the cake in alright, I guess I’ll say
it, now put your cake mixture in your baking pan and I’m gonna show you a
little trick to make it flat so go and grab yourself a towel because you don’t
want to damage the counter, do we miss? and then give it
a good five six maybe twelve taps pop that cake in the oven and let it sit for
32 minutes and maybe maybe maybe watch it a little
bit after 32 minutes your cake should be good if it’s not pop it back in for a
couple more minutes and take it out alright so we’re gonna let this set for
10 to 20 minutes until it’s cool to the touch and then we’re gonna take it out
of the container and let it cool even further alright, now that my cake is cool to
the touch I’m gonna take it out of the container the pan is still hot so just
kind of dump it just like that make sure you clean your hands before you do that
and then you’re gonna let it cool until it’s room temperature and then you’re
gonna put it in the freezer alright guys so first we’re gonna want
to wrap the cake and then we’re gonna put it in the freezer overnight before
cutting it up, icing it, and decorating it you be brave now honey I believe in you You’re doing great Bye all right guys thank you so much for

  1. Now you know there is always a "troll" in every video right! lol.So I am your troll.2 little suggestions who learned from the best who was your great grandma Emily. Suggestion # 1, If in doubt if cake is done use a toothpick and stick it in center of cake. If there is any cake on the tp try another minute or so.TP has to be dry.Suggestion # 2.Instead of your hand. Take a flat plate and place it over the cake pan. Tap the bottom of the cake pan a couple of times while the pan is upside down and the cake will be on the plate.
