Easy Cake Decorating Ideas from PartyAnimalOnline – Putting a Real Ribbon on your cake and board

So we are going to put the ribbons around the cake There are a few ways to do this and it is nice if you have a drum board to hold your cake Cake boards look nice with a ribbon around them I will use double-sided sellotape to secure the ribbon which is available in many different thicknesses to suit You don’t need to place the tape all the way round Just place it in enough areas so that the ribbon will stick securely and then peel off the backing I have put one one each side take your ribbon I’m using Gold ribbon and don’t forget to start sticking it on at the back of the cake so you can’t see the join Just position it at the side of the cake if you place your finger underneath you know where it needs to go It cannot go below the bottom of the board or it will PING off when you put the cake down on the table pull it tightly as you pull it round and snip it off and then just press in to make sure it is stuck to your double-sided tape Pritt Stick, or any other glue stick, is a great alternative to double-sided tape the advantage of that over the double-sided tape is that it will allow you to slide the ribbon around into position so that’s your board ribbon! for round the cake you don’t want to be putting anything like pins because it is going to be eaten I prefer to use a little bit of Royal Icing just run a thin line or some small dots all the way around and that will hold your ribbon in position alternatively you can put your ribbon on and secure it with a little double sided tape on the join, which will hold it fine if you put on the ribbon when the cake is still slightly moist you can pull it in a bit tighter and when you get to the overlap, trim your ribbon to suit at a slight angle to prevent it fraying and another small blob of icing to hold it in place you can put more small blobs to secure the ribbon more tightly if necessary don’t use too much or it will come through and soak your ribbon don’t use buttercream as it can be greasy so Royal Icing is better make up your own or buy a ready-made tube
